Enduro is the name of the discipline that has been enjoying increasing popularity for some time. It is the technical challenge of fast, hard descents and energy-sapping climbs. This requires a combination of a puncture-proof structure and good rolling properties as well as excellent grip. In the laboratories of the research and development department for Continental bicycle tires in Korbach, Hesse, employees and engineers have been looking for a solution to one of the basic problems in tire construction for a long time: The running properties of the rubber mixture of a tire are largely determined by three interacting factors: static friction (grip), Rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: If you improve one of these factors, at least one other factor will deteriorate. A tire with maximum grip wears faster and rolls slower. If you make the tire faster or more durable, its grip is reduced. With the previous cutting-edge technology, the activated silica tires, a good compromise had already been reached.
