SHIMANO Deore XT cassette 12-speed CS-M8100 10-45 teeth
Shimano is following suit and is also using a 12-speed drive for the XT M8100 group. In contrast to the competition, however, the Japanese give the biker the choice of whether he prefers a maximum range (10-51 teeth) or a more narrowly graduated cassette with smaller cadence jumps when shifting (10-45 teeth). The latter should particularly suit XC and marathon racers, who can conserve their energy when pedaling in the optimal frequency range.
Smooth and precise shifting has always been a hallmark of Shimano cassettes. In the last generations of Hyperglide cassettes, the sprockets were placed in such a way that the chain runs extremely smoothly and with little vibration, especially when switching to a larger sprocket. With the XT M8100 cassette, Shimano introduces Hyperglide+. Thanks to this technology, the shifting processes are now just as smooth when shifting to a harder gear and are 1/3 faster than with the CS-M8000 cassette.
When constructing the cassette, Shimano uses a material mix of steel and aluminum for the sprockets. While the ten small sprockets with the lowest chain wrap and highest load are made of steel, the two large sprockets are made of aluminum. This load-dependent use of material leads to even wear on the cassette and also extends the service life of the chain. The cassette is held together by an aluminum spider.
