The reinforced tooth profile increased the longevity of the cassette. It has a gear ratio of 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-36 teeth. We recommend the HG-X 9-speed chain from Shimano for the CS-HG40 cassette to ensure the best possible shifting behavior.
Shimano technologies
Hyperglide: HG cassettes have been extensively optimized for ten-speed drives on MTBs. This results in an excellent switching function. The specially designed Hyperglide sprockets have special tooth profiles and systematically placed climbing aids that perfect gear changes. This results in a fast and accurate index switching function. While with normal sprockets the bicycle chain first sits on the tips of the teeth before it sinks onto the sprocket, with HG cassettes it is guided straight onto the next larger or smaller sprocket. There is no “riding up”.
HG: An HG chain has larger parts at the inner plate end, which transfers power more gently and tightens the chain guide. This also ensures that gear changes are smooth and almost silent.
